How we started

Having the great fortune of being raised in Australia, playing sports and making the most of the outdoors was something we all just did. It was an amazing gift living in a culture where access to nearly any sport, at a school level or professional was a given, and ‘having a go’ was the norm.

With a career in media, it’s my goal to use this hugely engaging platform to entertain, excite and hopefully engage more people into appreciating and nurturing the outdoors and participating in sports – at any level.

We cannot push people into participation, but we can show them how fun and exciting being active is.

My goal is for Venture Sports Media to reimagine sports consumption; delivering the world’s best sports to those that currently cannot afford it, and engage fans in the experience like never before.

Carl von Doussa – Managing Director

Carl is a highly experienced leader with extensive international experience spanning media, entertainment and telecoms. A corporate innovator, advisor and NED in building and transitioning business to new digital business models. A track record of bringing together a consortium of diverse partners creating start-ups or JV’s across commercial and government sectors.

Carl is the founder and Managing Director of Venture Sports Media, a UK based company developing innovative content solutions for telcos and media groups principally in sports. Carl has licensed premium sports rights including EPL, UFC, tennis majors, motorsports and WWE.

Previous general management roles include COO and Executive Director at Abu Dhabi Media, one of the largest and most diverse media groups in the Middle East; COO and CFO of Flextech Television, ultimately becoming Virgin Media; management roles at Disney in the UK, Associated Newspapers; and numerous consultancy positions.

Carl has led or been instrumental in the creation of multiple start-ups. He led the business development for the creation and launch of UKTV, A $500m groundbreaking JV between BBC Worldwide and Flextech Plc; was on the boards of Sit-Up Ltd, and TV Travel Shop, two PE-backed start-ups with high-value exits; co-launched the second-largest multi-genre pay-TV group in MENA.

He launched the largest radio station in UAE, Radio Mirchi UAE, winning multiple awards.

Carl has a passion and proven track record in building profitable businesses that serve a mass market who could otherwise not afford the incumbents premium products.

He trained as a Chartered Accountant with PwC, and is a Harvard Business School Alumni.

Roger Hall – Advisor

Roger is an international business leader with 20+ years’ experience of developing, growing and transforming consumer driven media businesses.

Through his advisory business, Broadconcepts, Roger provides strategic, operational and business development advice to a range of clients in the media, entertainment and technology sectors. Clients include telcos, government ministries, sports marketing businesses, broadcasters, OTT operators, premium content rights owners, sports technology pioneers, private equity investors and leading international consulting firms.

Prior to forming Broadconcepts, Roger held a number of leadership and commercially led roles in media industry from large-scale, multi-territory businesses to early stage, high growth environments, operating in many of the world’s biggest media markets including the UK, the US, Canada, Asia Pacific and the Middle East.

Mark Stoneham – Advisor

Mark is an operating executive and advisor. Principle specialisms include strategy consulting, product and market definition and development, startups, capital raising, commercialisation, technology development, operations. Sectors include tech, media, telecoms, retail, health sectors.

Mark is a Partner with Venture Consulting, Australia’s leading specialist tech, media and telecoms consultancy. Venture provides strategy development, business improvement, due diligence, operational planning, technology strategy and implementation support. We combine deep analytical and strategic skills with real world experience in building leading brands in our sectors. We help clients maximise the ROI on their key business initiatives, whilst helping them innovate and transform to take advantage of new technologies and changing customer behaviour.

Mark also advises early stage through mature companies. For both the disrupted and the disruptors, helping founders to turn ideas into investment-ready propositions, through go-to-market and growth. Market validation, strategy development, product design, team building, capital raising and go-to-market.
